Discover why Wine Spectator, Robert Parker Jr, Jancis Robinson and other wine cognoscenti from around the world are raving about the fantastic rosé wine collection from maverick wine legend Sasha Lichine’s Chateau D’Esclans in Cotes de Provence, France.

The wines are made by old Lichine family friend, Patrick Léon, former winemaker of Chateau Mouton Rothschild. What Lichine and Léon have developed is a line of rosés with Burgundian winemaking techniques-and Studio 54 marketing. The wines are now de rigueur on the super yachts of Cannes and St Tropez.

These wines take rosé to the next level, with a range of four wines increasing in complexity and quality-Whispering Angel, Esclans, Les Clans, and Garrus, will finally dispel the misconception and myth that rose wine is not a serious wine.

Chateau D’Esclans in Cotes de Provence was created in 2006 by Sasha Lichine, son of wine legend Alexis Lachine. The wines are made by old Lichine family friend, Patrick Léon, former winemaker of Chateau Mouton Rothschild. Sasha Lichine set out to make the world’s most serious rose wine, and has already captured the attention of wine world with significant results. What Lichine and Léon have developed is a line of rosés with Burgundian wine making techniques-and Studio 54 marketing. The wines are now de rigueur on the super yachts of Cannes and St Tropez.

Chateau D’Esclans, located outside the winegrowing village of La Motte, is nestled between two mountain ranges and overlooks a valley that descends toward the Mediterranean. The vineyards are primarily planted with Grenache, Rolle (aka Vermentino), Syrah, Cinsault and Mouvedre, with some of the vines being over 80 years old. The key element of Chateau D’Esclans cru wines is the fermenting room, which is filled with dozens of 500 liter Burgundy barrels called demi-muids. Cooling tubes which are normally used in stainless steel vats are used to keep the fermentation slow, taking up to four months to complete. Thereby enhancing complexity and aromas. Other techniques like battonage create wines that are more complex and age worthy than any other rosé wine.

Lichine’s attitude is that “The world doesn’t need another great red wine-so why not make a great rosé-and prove that it can be taken seriously.” This has certainly paid off with the top flight Garrus now billed as the “most expensive rosé in the world”, and achieving 90 points in Wine Spectator-a score unheard of for rosé wine.

On October 27th and 28th Cellarmaster, Sasha Lichine of Chateau D’Esclans, and Soneva Gili Sommelier, Jasper Kok, hosted a wine dinner and a trade luncheon at Soneva Gili. Mr. Lichine outlined in detail the care and attention that is required to produce wines of such quality. Both events were a success and the wines were well received by all in attendance. The dynamic personality of Sasha Lichine and incredible quality of the wines held the audience captive.

We at Cellarmaster are proud and honoured to be able to offer these exclusive wines, which are available in 750 ml, 1.5 litre and 3 litre formats With rosé wine currently in vogue the world over, and our tropical Maldivian climate, these wines will be a must have on any wine list.
